Having your own place to live is one of the most fundamental needs of every person. Yet the law regarding housing can be very complicated.
Jackson & Canter's specialist Housing department was established to provide help and representation for tenants, housing applicants and owner-occupiers.
You will find that our Housing department is staffed by highly-qualified experts who can put your mind at rest and offer you a first class service. Please note that we do not act for landlords.
Q. Who does the Housing department help?

We do not:

- Deal with 'long leases' (leases for a fixed term of 25 years or more
- Deal with business tenancies

Disrepair
- Claims by tenants arising from premises in need of repair
Homelessness

Q. What about enquiries regarding tenancy terms?
We can help in all sorts of areas. These might include, for example, enquiries about the level of rent, rent increases and (for council and some housing association tenants) the right to buy or acquire property. If you are not sure about any aspect of tenants' rights, please ask, we will be happy to help.
Q. How much will it cost me?
If you qualify for Legal Aid we may be able to help you free of charge. When we first meet with you we will determine if you qualify or not. If you do not qualify, we will tell you how much we expect your case to cost. We will do our best to keep costs as low as possible and if our estimate changes, we will inform you as soon as we can. We accept cash and cheques, or if it is easier for you, you can pay by debit or credit card.
Q. What if English is not my first language?
We can provide an interpreter for most languages. Please tell us that you need this service when you first contact us.
Q. What if I have hearing difficulties?
We can arrange for a sign language interpretor to help. Please give us plenty of notice to arrange for this service.
