VICTORY FOR JACKSON & CANTER IN THE SUPREME COURT
Jackson & Canter LLP Solicitors have won an important victory in the Supreme Court on the 11th November which is not just good news for our own client but for many others in a similar position..
The firm represents a Liverpool woman from Somalia who applied for her mother and niece to join her in the United Kingdom so that they could escape the horrors of war torn Somalia. The client herself was on benefits but her own daughter who was in employment promised to provide support to her Grandmother and Aunt so that they would not need to apply for benefit whilst living in this country. Despite this the relatives were refused entry to the UK and they are living abroad in very difficult circumstances cut off from their immediate family.
The Supreme Court has decided that people seeking to join their family in this country can rely upon the financial support of a family member.
The decision is a landmark decision in Immigration and Human Rights Law and for our own client it will allow the family to live together in safety in Liverpool which is a great relief to everyone concerned and a tribute to Peter Simm and his team in our public law immigration department.
