WELFARE BENEFITS - HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT MOST

Welfare benefits can be a very complicated area. However, if you are entitled to any of these benefits, you want to make sure you get them. Jackson & Canter have a specialist team that can help you on all aspects of welfare benefit law. We are here to help.

We can advise you on procedures available for applying for benefits and whether you are entitled to certain benefits. We can also help you with any reviews and appeals you may be involved with. Rest assured that our highly qualified experts can put your mind at rest and offer you a first class service.

Q. What problems can you help me with?

Jackson & Canter's Welfare Benefits department can help you with a wide range of matters concerning welfare benefits.

  • Income Support and Incapacity Benefit
  • Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance
  • Child Benefit
  • Housing & Council Tax Benefit
  • Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit
  • Job Seekers Allowance
  • Carers Allowance
  • Industrial Disablement Benefit
  • Social Fund
  • Overpayment of benefits

We can also give you helpful advice on how to apply for benefits, as well as, in some circumstances, attending interviews and appeals.

Q. Who can you help?

We can help if you are:

  • Out of work due to redundancy or dismissal
  • Unable to work because of sickness or ill health
  • Disabled and want to return to work
  • A pensioner
  • A single parent
  • A low-paid worker
  • Carers Allowance
  • Caring for someone who is ill or has a disability

Q. How much will it cost me?

Legal Aid is available in most cases which means we may be able to help you free of charge. When we first meet, we will tell you if you qualify for help under this scheme. Generally, to qualify for legal aid you must have less than £3,000 worth of capital or be on a low income. If you get a 'passport benefit' (Income-based Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support or Guaranteed State Pension Credit) you should also qualify.

What if I don't qualify for Legal Aid?

Our specialist Welfare Benefits staff will give you initial advice free of charge. We will then discuss how much we think it will cost you.

Q. What if English is not my first language?

We can provide an interpreter for most languages. Please tell us that you need this service when you first contact us.

Q. What if I have hearing difficulties?

We can arrange for a sign language interpretor to help. Please give us plenty of notice to arrange for this service.

Q. Where can I come and see you?

Our Welfare Benefits department is based at the Church Street office, Liverpool city centre. You can also visit our Toxteth office if you wish. If you cannot travel, we may be able to visit you at your home.

Q. Who is in the department?

Graham Cunliffe (Partner & Head of Department); Frank Durnion (Departmental Manager & Supervisor) and Sue Conroy (Welfare Benefits Advisor).
