WHY CLIENTS TURN TO US FOR WILLS AND PROBATE MATTERS

Sadly, making a will is often the last thing we think about. Yet it is also one of the most important things we can ever do. Not only does it put our affairs in order, it makes sure our loved ones are looked after in the future.

Whether you need to make a will or have any legal matters regarding probate to discuss, we are here to help. Jackson & Canter’s legal experts have a reputation for providing clients with a first class Wills & Probate service at a value for money price. That’s why so many of our clients trust us to give them total peace of mind.

Q. Why do I need a Will?

Making a Will makes sense. It is easy to do and puts your mind at rest. Once you have made a Will, your wishes are legally binding. It also gives you peace of mind knowing that you are protecting those you love. It can save your estate inheritance tax and it gives you the opportunity to appoint Executors to carry out your wishes. The truth is, if you die without making a will, the state could inherit everything you have.

Q. How can the Wills and Probate department help me?

Jackson & Canter’s Wills & Probate department can help you with a wide range of matters. These include:

  • Making a Will
  • Estate & Inheritance Tax planning
  • Probate and administering an estate
  • Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection
  • Asset protection

Q. How much will it cost me?

It depends on how complicated your affairs are. The usual cost for you sitting down with us, going through all the issues relevant to you and your family, and drawing up a Will and Enduring Power of Attorney is roughly £200.

Q. What does Power of Attorney mean?

Power of Attorney gives you the opportunity to appoint someone you trust to act legally on your behalf if you so wish.

Q. Can I get Legal Aid?

You may qualify for Legal Aid in some circumstances. For example, if your assets are not more than £8,000, or you are a single parent, or if you are over 70.

Q. I am an Executor for someone who has just died. What do I do?

First of all, come and speak to us. As Executor, you are legally responsible for dealing with the estate of the person who has died, in accordance with his or her Will. Usually you will need to apply to the court for a Grant of Probate, a document that proves you are entitled to deal with the estate. We can help you do this. We can also give you advice and support throughout the whole procedure.

Q. What if English is not my first language?

We can provide an interpreter for most languages. Please tell us that you need this service when you first contact us.

Q. What if I have hearing difficulties?

We can arrange for a sign language interpretor to help. Please give us plenty of notice to arrange for this service.

Q. Where can I come and see you?

Our Wills & Probate department is based at the Church Street office, Liverpool city centre. Our office is fully accessible if you have mobility difficulties. You can also visit our Toxteth office if you wish. If you cannot travel, we can visit you at your home.

Q. Who is in the department?

Andrew Holroyd OBE (Partner & Head of Department); Roy Whitelaw (Solicitor). (Kate Webster (Solicitor) is on maternity leave).
